In 2014, John was was involved in a number of events at The Sydney Writers' Festival including a session with Michael Robotham, in which publishers and authors discussed the future of publishing -  Forest for the Trees: Writers & Publishing, a session called The Naked Bookshelf, with Kate Forsyth, which he chaired, and Sex and Literature with fellow novelists, Kate Belle, John Baxter and Angela Meyer. John also taught a workshop, Keeping Sex Real which sold out.
